COMPETITION RULES 2023/24
[THESE RULES ARE FOR ‘COMPETITIONS’ ONLY….NOT LEAGUE MATCHES]
PLEASE NOTE …..ALL TEAMS ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER EACH COMPETITION [clearly though, if you have no Ladies players you cannot be expected to enter the Ladies/Mixed Competitions!].
FAILURE / REFUSAL TO ENTER A COMPETITION WILL INCUR A FINE @ £1 per player…. Eg: A £4 fine for not entering the Arlesey Cup….a £3 fine for not entering the Memorial Trophy….a £1 fine for not entering the Captains Cup…..and a fine @ £1 per registered player for not entering the Singles / Doubles Competitions. [Teams are automatically entered into the Team Knock-out Cup & Shield.]
Competitions are open to any player/team registered in the Hitchin Darts League by 31st December. [ie Player Registrations MUST be with the Secretary by 31st December]. Any players registered – or registrations received - after that date, will not be eligible to play in any of these competitions.
There will be competitions for Mens & Ladies Singles, Mens, Ladies & Mixed Doubles, Tony Day Random Pairs Knockout Trophy, Nigel Hall Smith Trophy, Team Knock-out Cup & Shield, Arlesey Cup & Memorial Trophy and a Captains Cup.
All competitions shall be played over the best of 3 legs, start & finish on a double. The Singles, Landlords, Landladies & Captains Cup competitions will be ‘301’, the Doubles & Knock-out Cup/Shield will be ‘501’, the Memorial Trophy will be ‘601’ and the Arlesey Cup will be ‘701’. ‘Doubles’ pairings must be registered with the same team except the Tony Day Random Pairs Knockout Trophy.
There will a charge of £1 per player for Singles, Doubles, Arlesey Cup & Memorial Trophy matches and £2 per player for the Tony Day Random Pairs Knockout Trophy & Nigel Hall Smith Trophy . Accordingly the fee for the Arlesey Cup will be £4 per team (£5 if a reserve is used), and the fee for the Memorial Trophy will be £3 per team (£4 if a reserve is used).
There will be NO CHARGE for Knock-out Cup/Shield, Landlord & Landladies, or the Captains Cup.
Entries for all competitions will be requested to be submitted to the Secretary by a specified date. Any changes to nominated teams will only be accepted up to 30 minutes before the start of the competition.
The Committee will decide the date, venue and start time of competition games. All players/teams are requested to be available to play on time. Late arrivals will only be accepted if they have given prior notice of 24 hours (min) to the Committee. Their match will then be rescheduled as appropriate….but there will be NO EXTENSION of the time limit and so any player/team turning up after a rescheduled time will be disqualified from entry. The ‘draw’ for each competition will be made on the night of the competition as soon as all players/teams have registered – or the committee are aware of a late arrival.
ARLESEY CUP: A team shall consist of FOUR players with teams able to nominate ONE reserve to be used at any stage of the competition….but obviously not during a game! No player will be allowed to play for more than one team. The start of the 1st leg is to be decided by the toss of a coin…..NOT by ‘nearest bullseye’
MEMORIAL TROPHY: A team shall consist of THREE players with teams able to nominate ONE reserve to be used at any stage of the competition….but not during a game. No player will be allowed to play for more than one team. The start of the 1st leg is to be decided by the toss of a coin…..NOT by ‘nearest the bullseye’
NIGEL HALL SMITH TROPHY. Is a 'handicap', Charity, singles event open to all. The 'handicapping' will be decided by the committee at a later date. The winner received one-third of the Entry fees and the runner-up received one-sixth. The balance of the Entry fees (ie 50%) was added to the profit from the Raffle and paid to The Garden House Hospice (the choice of Nigel's widow Andi) The start of the 1st leg is to be decided by the toss of a coin…..NOT by ‘nearest the bullseye’
TONY DAY RANDOM PAIRS KNOCKOUT TROPHY: All entries are put in a hat and drawn out on the night, you will play with who you are drawn out with, winners will stick with the player drawn out until they lose. The start of the 1st leg is to be decided by the toss of a coin…..NOT by ‘nearest the bullseye’
KNOCK-OUT CUP / SHIELD: Teams will consist of FIVE players to play five ‘singles’ games each of the best of 3 legs. Teams can change their ‘five’ for 2nd or subsequent rounds. The order of play will be drawn in the same way that the draw is made for League matches. The ‘start’ to be decided by a toss of a coin – NOT by ‘nearest the bullseye’ - with the team winning the toss to go first in games 1, 3 and 5. The team that is throwing ‘2nd’ in a game shall provide a ‘chalker’ for that particular game.
The Knock-Out Cup shall be for teams in the top half of the League [Div 1] when it ‘splits’.
The Knock-Out Shield shall be for teams in the bottom half of the League [Div 2] when it ‘splits’.
